2008 Summary of Achievements

 

1. More than two thousand indigenous families have increased their food intake due to the establishment of farms and family orchards.

2. One community feeding center was built to serve breakfast to malnourish children attending elementary school.  More than 5000 meals were served.

3. An indigenous rural elementary school was built and two more schools where fully equipped including blackboards, chairs and tables.

4. More than six thousand educational briefings to families were conducted.

5. Basic sanitary access was increased to benefit 710 families.

6. Rain water harvesting made it possible to increase in 55 thousand gallons the supply of drinking water. 

7. More than 1,230 ecological stoves were built, which reduced indoor air pollution and the consumption of firewood to half the amount used in the past.

8. Due to insufficient road access to rural communities, local development is limited. Therefore, dirt roads damaged by weather conditions were repaired with local resources.

9. Access to health services is a mayor constituent in the development of the community, hence a local clinic was modernized and fully equipped.

10. We contributed to the acquisition of a new ambulance and in the construction of a new rural health clinic.
